FAQ

Working with the Studio

Services

What services does the studio offer?

The studio exclusively practices full-service interior design, carrying every project from concept through installation. That includes space planning, custom furniture and millwork, color and material palettes, lighting design, furniture and art selection, procurement, and installation and styling.

What kinds of projects does the studio take on?

New homes, full renovations and complete decoration projects, including rentals. Renovation and new-build projects also include design documentation and construction coordination with your builder.

Does the studio offer remote or e-design services?

No. The decisions that define a home are made in person, so every project is full-service.

Is styling included?

Yes. Styling is part of the design fee, not billed separately. Every project is delivered fully styled and finished.

Can you work with furniture and art I already own?

Yes. Existing furniture and art are assessed and incorporated where they serve the design.

Where does the studio source furnishings?

Widely: vintage and antique dealers, European markets, custom pieces from independent makers and workrooms, to-the-trade showrooms, contemporary designers and, where it makes sense, retail.

Do you work on rental properties?

Yes. Clients confirm landlord approval for all work before it begins.

Working together

Where is the studio based, and where do you work?

The studio is based in New York and takes projects across the US. Tenlie also spends part of the year in Paris, where she sources from European markets for clients’ projects. Site visits are scheduled in advance, and the studio stays in close contact with clients throughout every project.

How does a project begin?

Every project begins with a consultation to understand the home, how you live in it, the investment and the timeline. An initial proposal follows within a week and is refined after a site visit.

How long does a project take?

Every timeline is set in the proposal, based on the scope of work, the construction schedule and lead times for furnishings.

Do you work with architects and contractors?

Yes. The studio works alongside your architect and builder. Architectural, structural and engineering services, permits and construction management remain with them; the studio designs the interiors and coordinates closely so they’re built as intended.

How do you communicate during a project?

Email is the primary channel, so every decision lives in one thread. Clients can book meetings through a scheduling link, and messages are answered at a maximum of 48 business hours.

How does a project close?

Shortly after installation, the studio walks the home and issues a punch list. Once every item is resolved, the project closes with a signed certificate of completion.

Will my home be photographed or published?

Completed projects may be photographed for the studio’s portfolio. Client privacy is always maintained: no last names or exact addresses are ever published.

Fees and payments

How are design fees structured?

The design fee is a flat rate, plus a standard procurement markup on furnishings and materials in lieu of an additional administration fee. Every project is scoped and quoted after the initial consultation.

Is there a project minimum?

Yes. Projects begin at a total investment of $45,000, including design fee and furnishings.

How is art priced?

Art is billed at its purchase price plus a commission, paid before purchase.

Is sales tax charged?

Yes. Sales tax applies to design fees and goods according to the law of the state where the project is located, and is shown as a separate line on each invoice.

How are payments made?

By ACH or wire transfer, with no fee, or by credit card, with the card fee shown on each invoice. Clients choose the method for each invoice.

Can a project be done quickly?

Projects with a timeline under 12 weeks carry a rush fee of 50% of the design fee, and shipping and vendor costs may be higher.

Purchasing and returns

Can I purchase furnishings myself?

All furnishings and materials are purchased through the studio, so every order is specified, tracked, received and installed as designed, with one point of contact.

What is the return policy?

Returns follow each vendor’s policy. Vintage, antique and one-of-a-kind pieces are typically final sale, and the natural patina of antique pieces is not considered damage.
