A rental townhome where Brooklyn brownstone preservation meets a colorful English sensibility. Drawing inspiration from the client’s heritage, the project reinterprets the warmth and pattern-play of English cottage style against the townhome’s existing architectural bones.

Original moldings, flooring, and built-ins remain intact—a gracious framework for the introduction of color and texture. Full walls of custom drapery soften the interiors, their generous folds creating an enveloping warmth that transforms fixed architecture into something intimate. Custom upholstery throughout the project introduces bespoke moments within the constraints of impermanence, each piece an investment in daily enjoyment. The palette nods to the English countryside without literalism, distilling cottage charm into something refined and contemporary.

Against preserved details, a carefully composed collection of furnishings and fabrics creates atmosphere, connection, and a singular sense of place. The result is a home that honors both heritage and transience, proving that meaningful interiors don’t need to be permanent.
